The 2nd Year of GCED Curriculum Development & Integration Project (3rd Round-Laos) Launched with Kick-off Meeting

On 29 March 2022, APCEIU held the official kick-off meeting for implementing the 2nd year of Global Citizenship Education (GCED) Curriculum Development & Integration Project (2021-2023) via Zoom for Laos. The project aims to mainstream GCED into public education of Laos by creating GCED-integrated curriculum and materials.

 

 

Dr. Hyun Mook Lim, director of APCEIU, celebrated Laos for embarking on the project and emphasized the importance of developing GCED curriculum for secondary civic education. Mr. Outhit Thipmany, deputy director general of Research Institute for Educational Sciences (RIES), expressed his expectations and excitement for the meeting that will roll out meaningful details of the project.

The ongoing progress of the project was presented by Dr. Thongpaseuth (RIES). She presented that the Laos Project is set for its 2nd year implementation with the establishment of GCED Curriculum Development Committee, consisted of 23 experts and the Committee’s capacity of GCED was enhanced through a number of workshops. In addition, situational analysis was executed to assess the needs and identify the strategies of the project.

Participated by representatives from APCEIU, RIES and Lao National Commission for UNESCO on behalf of Ministry of Education and Sports, Lao PDR and the GCED Curriculum Development Committee members, the meeting reconfirmed the mutual commitment on mainstreaming GCED in the national education curriculum.

 

 

 

In the 2nd year, Laos will focus on civic education and develop its curriculum framework and draft manuals. The curriculum integrating GCED in secondary civic education is expected to be successfully provided to students of Laos which will empower learners to be responsible global citizens in a world.
